The Choir of Trinity Wall Street; Bang on a Can All-Stars; Julian Wachner, conductor 

This Pulitzer Prize-winning oratorio commemorates the history of coal mining in northeastern Pennsylvania around the turn of the 20th century and utilizes oral histories, interviews with miners and their families, speeches, and children’s stories in a moving musical tableaux. The Choir of Trinity Wall Street under the music direction of Julian Wachner performed the piece in Zankel Hall in 2018 and collaborated on the 2015 GRAMMY-nominated recording on the Canteloupe Music label.

This fascinating, beautiful program takes as its starting point the essence of the human voice: melody. Featuring the most memorable melodies of all time, from timeless chants to poignant folk melodies to some of the most tuneful pieces written in the 20th century, this concert will immerse you in flowing, gorgeous sound, performed by voices and string orchestra.
